2-Day Amazon Rainforest Tour from Baños, Ecuador

Discover the biodiversity, ancestral traditions and spectacular landscapes of the Amazon rainforest on an unforgettable journey from Baños de Agua Santa. Approximately two hours away, explore secondary rainforest, tropical rivers, beautiful waterfalls and Indigenous communities that preserve their cultural heritage.

Your adventure begins with a scenic journey from the Andes toward the Amazon, passing along the Waterfall Route and through landscapes near Sangay and Llanganates National Parks.

Visit the Kichwa community of Coto Cocha, where you can learn about local customs, discover traditional handicrafts and taste chicha, a traditional cassava-based drink. You will also enjoy a wooden canoe ride along the Puyo River.

Continue to the Indichuris viewpoint, known for its Amazonian scenery, rock formations and activities such as the jungle vine swing. Explore Hola Vida Waterfall, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim and a traditional natural mud experience.

At the end of the first day, share dinner in the community and join an approximately one-hour night walk before staying overnight in community accommodation.

On the second day, venture into the rainforest on a guided hike to a hidden waterfall, learning about edible and medicinal plants. After lunch, discover the traditional artisanal chocolate-making process before returning to Baños.

The package includes transportation, two lunches, breakfast, community accommodation, a bilingual guide, and rain ponchos and boots when needed.

Itinerary

DAY 1 – KICHWA CULTURE, WATERFALLS AND AMAZON ADVENTURE

9:00 AM – Departure from the Alexandertour office in Baños de Agua Santa by private transportation.

1. Scenic journey to the Amazon: travel through landscapes along the Waterfall Route and near Sangay and Llanganates National Parks, with commentary from a naturalist guide.

2. Mera Viewpoint: panoramic stop to admire the transition between the Andes and the Amazon, including views of the Pastaza River.

3. Coto Cocha Kichwa Community: cultural visit to discover local customs, traditions and handicrafts, including a tasting of traditional cassava chicha.

4. Puyo River canoe ride: enjoy a traditional wooden canoe trip surrounded by Amazonian scenery.

5. Traditional Amazonian lunch: chicken, beef or vegetarian options. Tilapia maito available upon request, subject to confirmation.

6. Indichuris Viewpoint: nature walk featuring rock formations, bat tunnels, recreational areas and a jungle vine activity.

7. Hola Vida Waterfall: enjoy a nature walk, a natural mud mask experience and an opportunity to swim at the waterfall when conditions allow.

8. Community accommodation: arrival at the community, traditional dinner, an approximately one-hour guided night walk and overnight stay.

DAY 2 – RAINFOREST HIKING, MEDICINAL PLANTS AND ARTISANAL CHOCOLATE

1. Traditional Amazonian breakfast at the community.

2. Hidden Waterfall hike: approximately one hour each way, learning about medicinal and edible rainforest plants.

3. Traditional medicine demonstration: discover ancestral knowledge shared by the community.

4. Waterfall swimming: time to enjoy the natural surroundings and swim when conditions are safe.

5. Lunch: included meal before continuing the program.

6. Artisanal chocolate experience: participate in a demonstration of the traditional chocolate-making process.

7. Return journey to Baños de Agua Santa by private transportation.
